The Mindset of the Successful Marketer – 5 Traits of Success

by admin

OK, I'm hyped up on a Trenta iced coffee right now as I sit on this uncomfortable chair in Starbucks because my stupid internet provider sucks so, hang on as I spill my thoughts about the of a successful marketer. This post is for you, but it's also for me because sometimes I have weeks like I did this week, when things didn't exactly go my way.

Before I start rambling specifics, I just want to express my opinion, which is correct, that mindset is your greatest asset as a marketer, hell as a human being in general. It weaves the fabric of who you are, yet it is fluid, changeable, washable. It can get outdated and in need of repair. It can be made of Polyester in an Egyptian Cotton world.

Anyway, that's all I got for fabric references, let's jump in…

When Tony Robbins says "Success Leaves Clues", he was speaking about the mindset.

1. Belief – If you want to be a successful marketer, you had better believe in a few things. Yourself, your abilities, your company, your product, your valid claim to the throne of success. Your mindset needs to be such that there is no doubt of success before you even begin a task. The outcome is assured because you will not stop until it is. But I'm jumping ahead, hold that thought. If you go into a selling situation with the words "hope or maybe" anywhere in your vicinity, you have just given yourself permission to fail. Screw that. Get it done, excellently, whatever it is.

2. Drive – Call it what you want, Motivation, Perseverance, Persistence. I call it Tuesday… and every other day of the week. You have to have that reason to do what you do because, let's face it, sometimes having your own business is tough. Your mindset will keep you going when the going gets tough. Who gets going? That's right, the tough. You ARE tough, because you believe, and rightly so, that you are flippin awesome.

3. Self Reliance – This kinda goes back to "Belief" but not really. Self-Reliance is built upon the bedrock of your belief. So, when problems pop up, you know that you can kick them down. Self-Reliance means that we don't waste unnecessary time knocking down obstacles. There are 3 simple steps to tuning your mindset regarding this. When junk pops up, you can either: Decide whether or not it's a big deal and deal with it or don't. If you decide to deal with it immediately, either learn it, hire it out, or ask for help. I'm usually inclined to hire it out, especially if it is in an area that doesn't interest me or will distract me from money-making activities. Speaking of those…

4. Concentrate on Money Making Activities – Here is where you get to fine tune your mindset. You already believe, you have the drive, and you can handle it yourself, but what exactly are you supposed to handle? Simple. It's YOUR business, you handle the important things which are crucial to money coming in the door. Lead generation (this can be farmed out / automated), Team Building (Recruiting / helping team mates), Education (Working on yourself). The team will go at the pace of the leader so, you have to keep yourself out in front. Stay in the game and play to win.

5. Refuse to Settle – Pulling all of these mindset elements together can be difficult at first. Here's a little trick I use. I refuse to settle for less than can do, or less than I deserve. I have come to expect excellence from myself and those with whom I work. I choose to live my life in a spirit of abundance and excellence. Anything less is a disservice to me, my family, my clients, my friends, and to you. Here's a little bonus though, excellence does not equal perfection. Perfection is a trap because it does not exist. Excellence, to me, means always meeting expectations and exceeding them if you can.

Once you get your Mindset right, you can be powerful in every aspect of life.
