It seems these days like there's so much talk about the . And not just talk; Books, videos, training courses, etc… all supposedly give you "The Secret" to harnessing the and making your dreams come true.

I have been a student of the prosperity mindset for quite a while now. I was introduced to it, officially I guess, by . He is a well known author on the subject and like his style. From Randy, I discovered and "", widely considered to be the authoritative book on the subject, as well as 's "The " .

The shocking truth about the Prosperity Mindset is…

…that it is not a bad thing as most of the world would have you believe. What could be bad about Prosperity? Well, let's think for a second. Our entire modern society is constantly programmed that wealth, influence and power are evil and that the poor and downtrodden are noble somehow? Don't believe that? Watch an hour of primetime TV. Are the villains in that show (pick one) rich or poor? Is the hero or heroine rich or poor? Chances are, 99% of the time the rich, evil (oil prosperity mindsetbaron, banker, politician, vampire (literally blood sucking), Hollywood power broker, etc…) is the heavy and our poor, noble hero finds a way to stick it to the man!

It is shouted at you constantly so when you begin to explore the Prosperity Mindset, you will automatically start to feel like you aren't worthy, like somehow money will taint your soul. Nothing can be farther from the truth. In fact Catherine Ponder says that poverty is a sin. That's right, she says that it is not only not noble, it is a downright, dirty shame to be poor. Let's reflect on this a minute by testing out some old sayings about money.

"Money can't buy Happiness", to which I reply, "Maybe, but it can rent it a lot longer than poverty can", or "Maybe not, but neither can poverty". Poverty can't buy anything, in fact, Poverty is the direct cause of most crime, drug addiction, and other activities that a person would likely never do if they had money.

"You can't take it with you when you're gone" to which I reply, "No, but you can do a lot of good with it while you are here". Most of the time, that comment is an excuse not to try. If they can justify the failure, it gives them an excuse not to try. Sad really.

The Prosperity Mindset is more than just thinking happy thoughts.

Is there something magical about thinking prosperous thoughts? I'll let you decide. There are differing schools of thought but whether thought actually communicates with the universe or God in the ethereal plane or maybe just constantly thinking this way keeps your mind focused on moving forward, there is little doubt: It Works. Doing a quick search of the internet shows staggering amounts of success attributed to this method.

How do you begin developing the Prosperity Mindset? Well, that question would fill more pages than you care to read through, however, over the next few days, I'm going to hit the highlights. I encourage you to read through the series, keep an open mind, and discover a way of thought that has no drawbacks, is truly a force that makes you attractive to others and has the potential to literally make your dreams come true.

I Hate . Harsh, right? Is it the products? Customer Service? The crappy buggies that always have one wheel with a flat spot on it? No, none of the above, even though they are irritating but not exclusive to the big W. Did I have a bad experience there? Not really, not any worse than other chain stores.

Then why am I so twisted up about them? Well, for that we’re going to have to get a little philosophical.

What is Wal-Mart known for?

wal-martEveryone loves a good deal, right? We LOVE getting huge discounts and BOGO’s (Buy One Get One) because it makes us feel like we accomplished something. It makes us feel like we were wise, frugal, smarter somehow.  After all, who doesn’t want to save money? I mean, we only get paid twice a month and we have to make it stretch as far as possible, right? WRONG!

Right there… That’s why I hate Wal-Mart. Now all the big-box stores play the same game. Even the little guys do it because they have to. But, of all the offenders, Wal-Mart is clearly the most blatant. They sell their product on one thing and one thing only: Price. It’s even in their slogan “Save Money. Live Better”

Right about now, you’re either tracking with me or you think I’m an idiot. I’m cool with that either way. Whatever.

The reason I hate Wal-Mart so much is because that kind of advertising promotes a “Lack” . Subconsciously, they’re feeding you the line that “You Need to Save Money” and that equals living better. By the way, they don’t really mean “Save”, they mean “Spend the same amount of money, but buy more things”. Stick the consumer needle in your arm again and again because the drug is soooo cheap. Listen, within 15 minutes of you leaving the store, they are crunching data on what you bought, what time of day, what day of the week, which combinations of things, total price, percentage of sale items, and on and on. Don’t think for one second that you are getting something over on any of these guys. They are still making a healthy profit, even on BOGO’s.

Here’s a thought, instead of thinking about how much money you can SAVE, why not think about how much money you can MAKE? I mean, if you made more money, it wouldn’t matter where you shopped, would it? You could go wherever you wanted. You wouldn’t have to buy cheap crap from China that breaks in a week, or food that has as much nutritional value as the cardboard tomb in which it’s currently wrapped.

The reason the is so dangerous is that it keeps you down.

It keeps you thinking about what you don’t have (money), and making you believe that you have to carefully portion it out because there might not be any more. Not only that, you have to settle for whatever they have because it will be “more expensive” somewhere else. And that, my friends, is bullsh*t. Sorry for the language, but it is.

What happened to buying quality items for a fair price? What about buying the highest quality item for a premium because we want to provide the best for the ones we love? Why not, for a change, break free of the fear of lack and dream about the possibilities that can open up when we approach life from a standpoint of abundance? Don’t let Wal-Mart, or anyone else, convince you that you are less than you are worth, and that you have to depend on them to help you pinch what few pennies you have left.

You don’t have to settle, you don’t have to be broke, you don’t have to put up with people or companies that try to make you feel small. You, my friend, are worth so much more than that. So, the answer is not worrying about running out of money. Worrying never did anyone any good. Put that worry energy into a positive form and dream of ways to make things better for you and yours, not just be content with the status quo.

There, I’m done. Hate mail can be left in the comments below or send them to gt@gtcanhelp.com. I'd love any Wal-Mart lover to tell me why it's so great and why I'm so wrong.

My family and I love . No, you don't understand. We LOVE Disney. We go whenever we can get away with it. If the kids have a few days off from school, we might hop a plane to Orlando for a few days. We have run all the marathons on both coasts numerous times. We are straight up nuts for the place, just to give you some perspective before we continue.

Our most recent trip to Disneyland in California was one of the best ever from almost every measurable standpoint. But I won't bore you to death with stuff that only I might find interesting. No, instead…Disney

Today I want to give you a few things that I have learned from Disney about marketing over the years.

1. Give People Real Value

Now, invariably someone is going to smart off about how expensive Disney is and ask me "how on earth they can give real value when they constantly price-gouge" (others words, not mine). First of all, Disney is an entertainment business. They entertain. That's the value they provide. When you are in the parks, the outside world doesn't exist. Any idea how it costs to pull that off? I'd wager a lot.

I've had several friends over the years that think I'm an idiot for spending so much money there, but the smiles on my kids faces, and the excitement and joy it brings us is worth every penny to me. Plus, without fail, every time those friends finally take the trip, they come back saying "Oh, we get it now!"

In your business, what are doing to bring your customers joy, excitement and delight?

2. Exceed Expectations And Create Magic

Probably the thing I love most about Disney is not only their obsessive attention to detail, but just the simple fact that they go way further than they have to make the experience magical. In fact, that is HOW you create magic for others.

An example, in our room at the Disneyland Hotel, they have installed new headboards in every room. These new headboards are really nice with carved detail of the castle from the park. Any other place, that would be the big thing in the room that would make you go, "Man, that's awesome!" But not at Disney. When you flip a switch on the table lamp, fiber optic fireworks appear all across the headboard in a replication of the nightly fireworksDisney show. But wait! That's not all! As the fireworks dance across the room, there's a little music box inside the lamp that plays "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes" for 30 seconds or so.

In normal marketing circles, you would sort this type of thing by labels like "Satisfiers" and "Delighters". Walt called it "Plussing It". Giving it that extra something that makes it magical. I have a hundred examples but, this latest one was one of the best moments of our trip. Luckily, I had the presence of mind to record the music box because my kids beg to hear it every night before going to sleep. Such a little thing for Disney to do, yet it has made a huge impact on people that were already raving fans.

How can you "Plus" your product or service to create magic for your customers?

3. Pay Attention To Details

Now, I want to avoid tripping anyone up here. I don't want you guys getting caught up trying to make everything exactly perfect, because it will never be. Perfection is a trap, but so is sloppiness.

Attention to detail is the main reason why Disney is so popular.

In each area of a Disney park, everything from the lighting to the trash cans are made specifically for that area of the park. It all fits together. There is no break in the fantasy. There will never be a Tomorrowland trash can in Adventureland. Likewise, your message and vision should be consistent. Don't be a jack of all trades and master of none. Find your voice, your message, your passion and own it down to the last detail.

This most likely means NOT doing certain things as far as marketing goes. Don't try to appeal to everyone, it will never work. Find your audience and dazzle them. Over deliver to them. Create magical, lasting value for them and you will both win.

It's a formula that Disney knows well and executes with precision and efficiency, and I love them for it.
